Campaigns: Freedom to demonstrate

Lib Dem peers were protesting against legislation which prevents protests within 1km of parliament. The 2005 Serious Organised Crime and Police Act contains a clause which requires anyone wishing to protest within 1km of the Houses of Parliament to seek police permission. Last year, Maya Evans was arrested for simply reading out the names of people killed in Iraq, outside the gates of Downing Street.
